The technique is being used to model traffic flows on managed motorways, and the strategies used by traffic controllers to manage traffic in peak periods. Risk Solutions is leading one of three teams charged with developing a prototype model. Safety Risk Training for Managed Motorways The Highways Agency (HA) is responsible for operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England. Our New London Home Risk Solutions is going up in the world! We have moved from our basement office at 59-60 Russell Square to a spacious first floor office at 45 Russell Square. The office is at the front of the building with a stunning view over the Square. International OPERA Risk Solutions has been commissioned to develop and implement an operational risk management framework, christened OPERA, for International Power. This will enable individual power stations to benchmark their own performance against the rest of the fleet, and to identify and share best practice across the company. Stabilising Greenhouse Gases The UK government is aiming to agree an international stabilisation goal for greenhouse gases, and recognises that research is needed to achieve this. Defra asked Risk Solutions to help define a proposed research programme to provide policy makers with the evidence they need. Working with policy makers and top researchers, we reviewed the relevant knowledge, identified priority areas of work and proposed governance arrangements for this potentially large research programme. Underground Communications Risk Solutions have proposed a new telecommunications asset strategy for London Underground. Promising better performance at lower cost, by connecting systems using an IP network. Celebrating our first 10 years Risk Solutions celebrated its first ten years by looking at the risks and opportunities of time travel with former colleagues and a wide cross-section of clients. Reducing Alcohol-Related Offending The social impact of alcohol-related crime has lead to a range of interventions being introduced in the UK. These include local agencies providing support and advice to offenders through 'brief interventions'. Various studies have demonstrated the beneficial impact of this approach in a healthcare setting, and the Home Office has commissioned a team led by Risk Solutions to evaluate the impact of brief interventions in the criminal justice area. Independent Living In 2008, the Office for Disability Issues, as part of their Independent Living Strategy, is considering running two projects to demonstrate the delivery of 1) choice and control for older people with high support needs and 2) the transfer of resources from assessment and care management into user-led support, advocacy and brokerage. Risk Solutions has been commissioned to scope the options for design and siting of the two projects. Improving Journey Time Reliability The Highways Agency has been set a PSA target to reduce vehicle delays. At a time when traffic volumes are continuing to grow, this is highly challenging and the Agency has been trialling a number of initiatives to improve the performance of its network. To help understand the effect of traffic growth and HA's initiatives on journey time reliability, a team led by Risk Solutions has been appointed to investigate the problem. |
