Risk Solutions are recruiting! Risk Solutions are a small, dynamic consulting team, working at the heart of Government and the private sector in the UK and Ireland. Our assignments have a major impact on policy across a range of Government departments and agencies.
We are pleased to announce that our independent evaluation of the AVOID programme is now available on DECC's web-site.
The population of England and Wales is increasing, our climate is changing and the demand for water is growing. Pressure on our water resources is increasing and our current water abstraction licensing system is struggling to cope. Risk Solutions is leading a team of experts applying innovative methods to help Defra and the Environment Agency assess the impact of potential reforms to the water abstraction regime. High Volume Semi-trailers Trial Monitoring Risk Solutions has been appointed by the DfT to provide independent monitoring for the trial of High Volume Semi-trailers
The recent Workplace Retirement Income Commission (WRIC) report on private sector pensions makes sober reading. Up to 9 million people may fall through the cracks in the system and many will be on course for a very poor old age. Failure to save when young means that people need to save harder when they are older if they are to have an adequate retirement income. DWP asked Risk Solutions to evaluate the effectiveness of workplace talks provided by The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) in this important area. Fuel Resilience in Scotland Risk Solutions and AEA Technology have been appointed to carry out a fuel resilience study for Scotland. New Training Course Dates New dates have been agreed for our two-day introductory course to risk management. The course is being run in London, Birmingham and Warrington in September and October 2011. Modelling Seminar A big part of the work we do at Risk Solutions involves analysing large data sets and developing mathematical models of complex systems. In July, we invited representatives of Rio Tinto, NAO, DECC, Health Protection Agency, DfT, Highways Agency, Network Rail, London Undergound, Rail Safety and Standards Board, Technology Strategy Board and University of East London to debate the challenges of modelling complex problems.
Possibly our most entertaining client event yet was at the headquarters of The Magic Circle. There is no such thing as a free dinner and our guests earned theirs by finding magical solutions to the budget deficit - whilst being distracted by mind readers, pickpockets and close-up magicians!
Risk Solutions was invited by the Technology Strategy Board to have a stand at Innovate 10 - its annual showpiece event - which was on the theme "Connect for Growth".
We have helped both the Scottish Government and Welsh Assembly Government to analyse the resilience of their food supply chains.
The Highways Agency has appointed Risk Solutions to explore the idea of developing an holistic safety risk model for the strategic road network (SRN) in England. This will capture all of the safety risks associated with the operation, maintenance and improvement of the SRN and particularly the interactions between risks to road users, road workers, Traffic Officers and third parties.
Alcohol is widely acknowledged to be a major problem for society in Britain, and the railways are not exempt. Intoxicated passengers are more likely to injure themselves, be victims of crime, behave antisocially or act aggressively towards staff and other rail users.
The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) provides licensing, testing and enforcement services to goods vehicles, buses and coaches operating in Great Britain. VfM Review of Railway Safety As part of a wider programme of investment in the country's transportation system, the Irish Government is making significant investments in the rail network through a 15 year Railway Safety Programme. To ensure that the programme is delivering value for money and inform priorities for the final five years of the programme, Risk Solutions was appointed to conduct an independent evaluation and policy review of the programme in February 2008.
The Highways Agency is responsible for the operation and stewardship of the Strategic Road Network in England. Its primary functions are to reduce congestion, improve journey time reliability and safety, whilst minimising the network's adverse impact on the environment. Tackling Public Risk The Risk and Regulation Advisory Council (RRAC) has been leading an experimental offensive against the mishandling of risk in society. Risk Solutions was commissioned by the Council to capture the essentials of its approach. The results have been published in 'Tackling Public Risk: A Practical Guide for Policy Makers' now available on the BIS website.
Risk Solutions, working with AEA Technology, has developed a Risk Governance Framework for the European Commission, which is to be used to identify the vulnerability of pan-European energy supplies (oil, gas, electricity) to threats relating to ICT systems. The Risk Governance Framework then helps organisations decide how to manage these potential threats.
Government clients are placing increasingly stringent requirements on companies to demonstrate that they have robust data security arrangements. Risk Solutions has always placed great emphasis on the confidentiality, integrity and security of clients' data and information, but the technologies and challenges involved are always changing. We have responded by reviewing our business processes and IT infrastructure to ensure that we provide the highest possible levels of security for all our clients.
Risk Solutions has been accredited to the ISO9001 quality standard (and its predecessor BS5750) since 1997. Our latest external audit by LRQA found that we were fully compliant with the latest (2008) version of the standard. The auditor commented on the continuing high level of client satisfaction and recent enhancements to our security arrangements to address increased concerns about data security from our public sector clients.
In April 2009 the DfT published "A Safer Way: Consultation on Making Britain's Roads the Safest in the World". Risk Solutions has a close interest in the subject through its work with the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) and is working closely with the Highways Agency on a number of projects in the area. Our response to the consultation paper built on this work and our experience of improving safety in other sectors.
Risk Solutions has recently been commissioned by the HSE to estimate the costs to Britain of workplace injuries and work-related ill-health. |
