Understanding the Resilience of National Food Supply Chains

Food on the shelves

The Scottish Government and Welsh Assembly Governments recognise the importance of ensuring that their food supply chains are resilient to disruption. This is becoming increasingly important as food supply chains are becoming more complex and vulnerable to both short and longer-term disruption.

Working with government officials and stakeholders from across the food supply chains we:

  • Identified and assessed the events that could potentially affect 'food on the shelves'
  • Identified specific key vulnerabilities in order to prioritise and guide subsequent mitigation activities by both governments.

Our approach built upon the UK National Risk Register so that the governments can relate these 'national' risks to the availability of food to the general public.
