Research and innovation

Risk Solutions carries out research both as part of our ongoing commitment to improve our services and on behalf of our clients. We have undertaken research in various areas including: specialist risk issues; policy making; and decision making contexts. The results of our research have been used to help support better decision making.

We combine a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods in our research, but all our work is characterised by:

Effective stakeholder engagement and involvement
Use of rigorous, statistically valid, structured techniques
Combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques within systematic analysis frameworks
Use of bespoke models, where appropriate, as well as standard analysis techniques.

Particular strengths of our approach are our ability to bring multiple perspectives and disciplines effectively to bear on policy issues and the clarity with which we present the findings to the lay reader.

Examples of our work include:

Periodic surveys of the state of maturity of risk management thinking in top UK companies – research carried out on our own behalf and in partnership with the Major Projects Association
Understanding the origins and drivers of societal concern and developing methods of measuring these – research carried out for the HSE and RSSB
Risk decision making – research carried out for UKOOA and RSSB
Reviewing good practice in the use of indicators and targets for RSSB.
